Van fixed & Solar Panel install

I am so relieved, managed to piece together all of the wires that I destroyed.

So you may remember that I set about installing a Solar Panel on the roof of our caravan and had a little (OK Major) mishap. I drilled right through the main wiring loom of the van. Well some idiot had hidden them in the ceiling. What a stupid place to put them?

I had taken my time and worked out where I wanted the cables and to ensure that I didn’t mess up the measuring/guesswork when drilling from the outside and then coming through on the wrong side of the wardrobe wall and into the main lounge area I decided to drill up and not down. I moved away from the sidewall to avoid anything that could be in the ceiling and as I was drilling exactly level with the TV aerial I assumed I must be OK.
Doh!!
I couldn’t have done it better if I had tried!

It took a while to piece together the wires together.

In the end 3 fuses blew because of my little drilling incident. The main 20Amp fuse by the battery and 2 in the fuse box. Because the fridge was on and the radio at the time of the mishap I was dreading the possibility of having damaged the fridge control circuit but thankfully it seems that it survived to cool another day.

So the next job is to connect the Solar Panel controller to the battery. I’m planning on connecting to the battery charge wires coming from the battery charger which is in the wardrobe but it is all boxed in and the wires that are in the void below the charger are numerous to say the least. So I am planning on opening up the box to see if I can identify the correct cables otherwise I will need to get out the multimeter or connect directly to the battery by running the cables under the van.

More fun to come!
