So this weekend we attended The Lancs & Cheshire D.A. Family Christmas Party in the car park of a social club in Helsby Cheshire.
One of the things that we have found out that we like about owning a touring caravan is Social Camping. Rallies.Usually a rally is in a location that you would not normally associate with a caravan site so usually there are no or few facilities, but a caravan has all you need installed inside it already right?
Toilet, Shower, Hot Water, Cooker, Bed, Heater etc.. so why not just pitch up with a load of other like minded looneys in a car park somewhere?
That’s exactly what we did this weekend for the Lancs & Cheshire District Association Family Christmas Party. The car park belonged to a sports club in Helsby near Chester.
There was craft’s to partake in…. We made a twig Christmas tree, a paper Santa Claus.
One of the big benefits of social camping is usually the cost or lack of. This weekend cost us £13.00 for 2 nights and there is normally some kind of activity planned and always a social gathering and quite often plenty of alcohol consumed.
At £13.00 for the weekend it means that you can go away as often as you like without having to worry about the cost. For us that means a decent summer holiday and plenty of weekends.
Both of the clubs offer rallies. The Camping & Caravan Club rallies are organised by local District Associations (D.A’s) and the Caravan & Motorhome Club rallies are run by Local Centres. We have not tried the C&M rallies yet as to be honest it was not very easy to find information and when we did it seemed that our local centre didn’t really want members to join them at a rally. The booking process was a pain, you had to download a form complete it and post it to the steward along with payment or deposit. The information in the handbook that we were sent was sketchy at best with no mention of costings and most contact details being a phone number. On the other hand the C&CC publish all DA rally details online, via an app and in print. You can just turn up at any D.A’s rally without booking unless the details state that the meet must be booked. The C&CC rallies just seem a whole lot less hassle.
So if you’re a member of either club why not look into rallying? It’s all about fun and friendship.
