Burrs Country Park Caravan & Motorhome Club Site
Bury
Greater Manchester
Burrs is what seems to be a typical C&M Club site. All hard standing pitches, all Electric Hook Up, all pitches a good size. Some pitches are fully serviced these are marked with a Pinkish colour peg and Standard pitches are marked with a white peg.
There is the usual toilet block with all the same facilities, toilets, showers and washbasins. A Laundry, a washing up room etc…. The facilities are perfectly adequate if a little more dated than those at Chester Fairoaks Club Site.
The site has the major draw of the East Lancs Railway running right along the edge and indeed Burrs Country Park now has it’s own station. To get to the station you have to leave the site and walk past the front of the Brown Cow Pub. That’s the first issue, getting past the pub without going in!
When talking to the Station Master that was on duty it seems that the Caravan & Motorhome Club paid for most of the station. As this is the case some direct access from the site would have been nice……We did pay for it after all.
The only real issue at the site seems to be an inadequate Electricity supply. On our first night (Friday) the electricity supply was on and off like a Brides Nightie on her wedding night.
In the morning I was told by our neighbour that the same thing happened last weekend and was almost certain to happen again tonight. The wardens told him last weekend that there was nothing they could do, it was like this last year too. It seems the site was extended last year with another 20ish pitches but the Electricity supply was already unable to cope and was not uprated for the extra load.
For a C&M Club site which should have the best facilities available it’s a pretty poor show to keep taking members money knowing full well that people will struggle to keep connected. I know some caravanners who can not cope without mains electricity and would almost certainly have had their weekend ruined by this situation.
Luckily for us, we are set up for off grid camping and had plenty of gas so it didn’t really matter to us but if the club had made us aware of the issues they experience when the site is full then we could have saved a few quid and gone somewhere else.
Club sites are pretty expensive especially when you consider the membership fees as well as the pitch fees. I don’t mind paying if we’re getting the best facilities but dodgy electric supplies does not make happy campers.
**The review to here was originally written in 2018 but had remained in the “Drafts folder” So from here on it’s the 2020 update.**
We booked here at short notice due to Manchester being places into Tier 3 Lockdown.
The facilities have not changed however the electricity supply seems to have stabilised.
