5 Star Evening of Luxury

So It’s the Management’s Birthday today and as usual I had no idea what to buy her. The only idea I did have I passed onto the kids as they were also clueless!

So I booked Hotel Gotham Manchester a bespoke 5* Hotel in Manchester and not a Batman  nor a Robin in sight.

Our Room for the Night

We arrived to a welcome at the front door and our bag was taken off us to be delivered to our room and we were directed to the reception on the 6th floor.

Reception

We had booked a table at Honey Restaurant which is also on the 6th floor and because we were resident we had access to Club Brass on the 7th floor. The Club is the Hotel’s private members bar which is quite exclusive with individual membership fees starting at £750 per year.

As some of you may know Halys’ Dad lives with us, he has Alzheimer’s so our caravan trips and the occasional night in a hotel allow us a break from our caring responsibilities. He was off for the day with Halys’ older sister for a visit to the Imperial War Museum so this allowed us to slip away for a night of luxury in aid of Halys’ Birthday, or so we thought.

One night at Gotham costs more than we pay for a week away in our caravan so it better be good right?

We were not disappointed, right from the moment we arrived we were greeted at the door with a warm smile and our bags were taken from us to be delivered to our room. We were directed to the 6th floor to check in.

At reception we were given a welcome drink and our room key. Room 112 on the 1st floor. We found our room and entered to find a stylish Luxurious room.

Bathroom

After relaxing in our room for a while we and a shower in the “Monsoon Shower” we went off to Club Brass. The exclusive members only bar. The entrance is from the 6th floor reception area up a staircase fashioned like a ships staircase. It really does feel like you are onboard a ship. You enter to the bar right in front of you with staff wearing short white waiters uniforms, the type you see in old movies worn by the ships waiters. We sat on the terrace with views over the city centre.

I had booked a table at Honey, the hotels restaurant and we made our way down to the 6th floor again to be shown to our reserved table. We were presented with menus and a wine list as thick as the London telephone directory.
We chose our food and a wine that was not too heavy to go with it. The wine conesour  introduced himself and asked if he could help with our selection. Luckily he agreed with our choice for our choice of food.

Honey Menu

For main I chose the Fillet Steak and Halys chose the Duck. For starters we both chose the Mushroom which turned out to be a soup. As you can see for a 5* hotel the prices on the menu are very reasonable and the food was delicious!
For desert Halys chose the Cheese From The British Isles and was then presented with the “Cheese List” which was the size of most restaurant’s wine list. It was full of cheeses that we had never heard of so she chose some that sounded interesting and again the wine conesour recommended a glass of port to compliment her choice of cheeses. I had the Malted Toffee Pudding of course.

With desert the hotel delivered a small birthday treat.

After an amazing dinner we slipped out around the corner to our favourite cocktail bar Vesper.

We headed off to bed happily full and satisfied. Unfortunately at 2am we got a call from our daughter to say that Halys’ Dad was having a really bad night and she was not able to settle him down, so we had to check out and get a taxi home to take over. It’s sometimes not an easy task to look after someone with Dimentia and you certainly have to make some sacrifices along the way but it’s something we choose to do and even with hindsight we would make the same choice again.

Gotham is a fantastic hotel and is well worth a visit. I’m not going to lie it is EXPENSIVE!!!! But as a birthday treat it is an acceptable expense.
